🎟️ Free!
🗓️ Open daily, popular on Sundays
📍Block 159 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 – near Ang Mo Kio Town West Garden & Mayflower Market + Hawker Centre (central Singapore)
This is one of those Singapore hidden gems where you know about it or not. There are a couple of spots around Singapore where you can enjoy the singing of caged birds. This tradition dates back to kampong culture and is therefore most popular amongst retirees.
Bird singing was started in efforts to keep endangered species thriving. The Kebun Baru Bird Singing Club is amongst the most popular. Although birds are brought out almost daily, especially when it isn’t raining, the most popular day for chirping is on Sundays.
There is also a smaller bird singing corner at Hougang Neighborhood Park as well as a bird singing hangout pavilion located at 430 Clementi Avenue 3, across from Celemnti 488 Market and Food Centre. This one may have even beat Hell’s Museum (Haw Par Villa) in terms of out of the box activities.

View this post on Instagram
🎟️ S$4/pax, S$6 if you are brining a bike
🗓️ Ferries run daily from 6am-7pm
📍Ferries run from Changi Point Ferry Terminal
Too often overlooked by visitors, Pulau Ubin is a lush island off the eastern coast of Singapore best known for cycling, hiking, camping, and wildlife spotting. It is only reachable by a 10-minute ferry ride which has no set schedule can can hold 9-12 people. You may be able to arrange a past 7pm pick up time with the boat tender.
To know about the ferries: Going to/from the island will usually require a full boat of all 12 allotted spaces for pax (fewer if people bring their own bikes) OR if the boat is largely empty, you can pay the rest of the amount to fill in all the untaken slots (e.g. if you are by yourself, want to go to the island, and don’t wish to wait until the boat fills up, you wold have to pay S$48). This is also true for returning from Pulau Ubin, so please do not wait until you are the last person off the island. It may be wise to make a pact with your boat mates about a return time so you can all go back to the Singaporean mainland together.
Please ensure you bring cash for bike rentals, ferry fees, and food . Please bring plenty of water; the island does offer hawker-style food stalls. Did you know that Singapore hidden gems such as Pulau Ubin is also home to the Singapore police academy? More Pulau Ubin highlights are detailed below!
Biking on Pulau Ubin
Prices on Klook range from S$15.50-S$55, depending on the bike type/configuration. Please be sure to test ride your bike and make sure you also check the bikes features (like the bike seat). These bikes are not so gently used and checking beforehand can let you switch out a bike without issues. Also be sure to ask for bike locks!
There are several bike shops on the island, so be sure to bring cash if you are planning on renting on the spot. You can cycle through the jungle, along the coast, through the wetlands, and around several quarries. There is even a mountain bike trail, as seen above.
If biking is not your thing, you can hike or kayak as well!

Shrines & Temples on Pulau Ubin
View this post on Instagram
There are two shrines on Pulau Ubin, Wei Tuo Fa Gong Temple and the German Girl Shrine. Pulau Ubin is a Kampong island that has no running water, no standard electricity, and little to no cars, meaning your visit to the holy sites will be quiet as can be.

Dragon Beard candy making originates in China, dating back to the Han Dynasty. I’m really glad that this ancient tradition became popular on social media in the past few years. If you are unfamiliar, dragon bread candy is hard candy that gets folded over dozens of times with a dusting of powdered sugar, forming dozens if not hundreds of soft and thin hair-like strings of candy.
These food related Singapore hidden gems are super fun for kids, especially when it involves candy. For more info on dragon beard candy in Singapore, be sure to consult their official website.
