The Peranakan Museum is not only unique from the outside, but oh so colorful inside. If you never heard of the Peranakans and their significance in Singapore today, I would recommend this place.
There are two other museums in Singapore that honor Peranakan culture but are located outside the SIngapoe City Centre. Those are the NUS Baba House (near Chinatown) and the Itnan (near the iconic Joo Chiat Road).

The Kreta Ayer Heritage Gallery aims to preserve Chinese performing arts/opera house. This Singapore museum also showcases puppetry, tea appreciation, and calligraphy. Kreta Ayer Road played a significant role in Chinatown culture since the early 1900s and today as a hidden cultural gem among the many museums in Singapore City Centre!

This Singapore museum is not only located right within the heart of Chinatown on the stunning Pagoda Street, but better yet, it is built out across three shop houses and spread out across three stories. The Chinatown Heritage Centre is intended to educate guests about life as Chinese settlers and portray what their life is like.
This museum is not to be mixed up with the Chinese Heritage Centre, which is located at Yunnan Park/NTU Campus in Jurong West (northwest Singapore). However, it is worth stumbling into these heritage-based museums in Singapore City Centre.

Ying Fo Fui Kun a Hakkan Heritage Centre started as a temple in the 1800s. It is associated with the Hakkan Shuang Long Shan Cemetery located in Commonwealth. Kong Chow Wui Koon, also known as the Kong Chow Cultural Centre, is โthe oldest Chinese clan associationโ founded back in 1840! This living Singapore museum offers a variety of rich Chinese cultural performing arts like Cantonese Opera, Kungfu, as well as traditional dragon and lion dances. There is also a gallery featuring opera clothing displays while outlining the past of the Xinhui people. The gallery is called the Xinhui Clan History Gallery.

Fort Canning Park offers two free galleries! One is the Fort Canning Heritage Gallery that outlines the hillโs rule by five Malay Kings. Fort Canning Park itself has a number of historical sites throughout the park such as soldiersโ quarters and the Battle Box. 20. Battle Box at Fort Canning Park

Want to learn explicitly about World War II in Singapore? Consider making your reservation at the Fort Canning Battle Box, a series of bunkers that depict once lived war-time moments. Though a free museum, you can purchase an enhanced experience that offers more interactive exhibits using modern technology.
If you are still not satisfied with WWII history in SG, there are three other museums in Singapore outside the City Centre to explore: Fort Siloso on Sentosa Island, Reflections at Bukit Chandu, the Former Ford Factory, and Changi Chapel & Museum.

This tiny SG museum gives you a glimpse of the Singaporean Presidentโs residency. The gallery is also surrounded by some enchanting small gardens in true Singapore fashion.
The real Istana is located just up the road between Central Expressway and Mount Emily and if youโre lucky, few real Istana open houses do happen and allow for pax to purchase tickets. This is one of the smallest museums in Singapore City Centre.

22. The Indian Heritage Centre

The Indian Heritage Centre rotates its exhibitions while also offering free guided tours. It offers seasonal happenings during holidays like Diwali/Deepavali and Tamil New Year where workshops, demos, fashion shows, and other activities are put on at this SG museum.
It is also currently hosting a Malaysian history exhibit as the Malay Heritage Centre is closed until 2026 for renovations. These two museums in Singapore City Centre are a total hit – you will like the IHC exterior as well as interior!

23. Buddha Tooth Relic Temple & Museum

This Chinatown icon is indeed free to visit! You will get to explore the many floors and rooms of this massive temple, to include to rooftop garden and rotating wheel. This SG museum is one of the most immersive! The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple even has a very affordable food court below the main building, so put number 17 of museums in Singapore City Centre. It is just not a visit to Singapore without it.

The ArtScience Museum is a must when visiting Singapore. This Singapore museum is best known for its kid-friendly Future World exhibit where you can interact with light displays and scan in your doodles. It is also home to the famous walk-through light hall.
๐ You are able to enter the museum without tickets if youโd like to check out their atrium (escape the heat) and shop for gifts. Its other exhibits are always changing and geared towards adults. They also offer workshops for S$68, film screenings for S$13, and museum tours for S$5. This is truly one of the coolest museums in Singapore City Centre so be sure to check out the ArtScience Museum!

The Barrage also has a grassy rooftop with amazing views of the Singapore Strait and the city! There are many museums in Singapore City Centre but this one is quite interactive.

The Singapore City Gallery is an underrated experience in the City Centre. Not only free to enter and to see ALL exhibits, this Singapore museum has interactive displays that kids will love.
